Meet Your Meat - YouTube Video
Recently I watched a very disturbing video on YouTube called "Meet Your Meat".
This video is a graphic documentary about the animals that we derive our meat from and how they are treated before slaughter.
What I saw sickened me!Hundreds and hundreds of cows, chickens, and pigs that never got to see the outside of a barn as they are raised in tiny stalls filled with their own excrement for the whole of their lives.
Newborn calves being ripped away from their mothers just after birth so that the industry could take her milk from her--for our consumption.
Cows strung up by their back legs and their throats slit open so that they they can 'bleed out'--while they are still alive!I couldn't believe my eyes, honestly, and seeing this haunting video made me resolve to change my ways as much as I could.
In our society today where even animals have the right to humane treatment I wondered, how are we letting this happen?Is it just because the word is not out yet?I mean, we would be disgusted and angry if we ever heard of a dog or cat treated this way.
And nowadays there are organizations working in our society that are specifically set up to protect animals all across North America.
How, then, do we make it OK to treat these farm animals so inhumanely?I can't even fathom it.
I suppose, though, that's it's easiest to turn a blind eye.
Especially those of us who eat meat-(yes, myself included).
No one wants to think that the hamburger we are cooking tonight has come from a cow that has been grossly and inhumanely mistreated from its birth to its death! I watched this video almost two months ago, and I still cannot get the images out of my mind.
Watching it has in fact caused me to begin to re-evaluate some of my eating choices.
While I cannot say I've become a total vegetarian as yet, I have begun looking for local farms that sell 'Certified Organic' meats.
At least by purchasing these products I know that the animals I and my family are dining on are treated in a humane way.
If you are interested in eating organic meats and wonder where you can purchase them, type "Certified Organic" into Google along with your location.
I did the same and found several farms in my area that sell these products.
You must look for 'Certified Organic', though.
If it says only 'Organic' you cannot be certain that the animals are up to the highest standards.
