- 1). Clean the hard drive. The Windows Disk Cleanup utility removes temporary Windows and Internet files, downloaded Microsoft Active-X controls, Java applets, obsolete files and remaining remnants from deleted files.
•Click START
•Click on All Programs
•Click on Accessories
•Click on System Tools
•Click on Disk Cleanup
•With multiple drives, select the drive to be cleaned
•On the Disk Cleanup For dialog box, click on the file types that are to be cleaned. This will include files in the Recycle Bin, Setup Log Files, Temporary Files and others.
•Click OK and confirm by clicking YES - 2). Check the hard drive for errors. The Windows Error Checking utility tests the hard drive for errors, bad sectors and misplaced files and folders.

The free edition of AVG Anti-Virus is a popular anti-malware program that protects a computer while quietly running in the background. When connected to the Internet, it automatically updates its malware signature files for up-to-date protection.
