Highway Traffic Act Section 144.9
- Section 144 of the Highway Traffic Act relates to traffic and pedestrian control signals. It covers the broad legislation regarding motorist behavior, including left turns, right turns and proceeding ahead without due care and obeying the signals and signs.
- Drivers must obey signs and regulations where the forbidding of left and right turns are posted at intersections. If there is a "Stop" sign, the driver must obey the rules and stop. If there is a traffic signal the driver must obey the signal. Movement through the traffic signal is also included in these regulations.
- Passing through, turning left or right at an intersection without obeying the law will result in a traffic violation and a ticket. Two "Demerit" points will be added to the license record and remain there for three years. Insurance policy prices can be effected until the points clear off the record.
