How to Get a Copy of a Kansas Birth Certificate
- 1). Order the record in person at the Office of Vital Statistics in Topeka. Be prepared to show a state-issued ID, passport or military ID. Each copy of the certificate cost $15. Payment may be made in cash, check, money order or credit card. The office is opened weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. CST.

Provide a full name, a social security or driver license number, your relationship to the person named on the record (e.g., parent or self) and a mailing address. You will also be asked for information about the person named on the certificate such as full name, date of birth, place of birth and parents' names. The price for a copy of the certificate is $15 plus an additional $11 for an expedited service fee. All certificates ordered by phone are expedited. Payment must be made by credit card. You will get records ordered by phone within three business days.
Call 1-785-296-3253 to order the birth certificate weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. CST. - 3). Send a request for a Kansas birth certificate by regular mail. You must download and complete an application form (see Resources). The application requires both the full name of the person on the certificate and the person ordering the certificate, as well as the date of birth, place of birth and parents' names of the person named on the record. Specify the reason why the certificate is being ordered and how many copies you want. Include a copy of your state-issued identification card, a self-addressed stamped envelope with your application and a check or money order in the amount of $15 for each copy made payable to "Kansas Vital Statistics." You will get certificates requested by regular mail within five to 10 business days.

You may also request the certificate by sent by priority mail. Include a self-addressed, pre-paid priority mail envelope with this request. Priority birth certificates will be arrive within three business days. - 4). Order a birth certificate online with VitalChek (see Resources). VitalChek is an authorized third-party vendor. The online ordering process requires you input the name of the person ordering the record and the relationship of that person to the person on the record. Enter the full name of the person on the record, her date of birth, her place of birth and her parents' names. Certificates ordered through VitalChek will cost $15 per copy plus an additional fee of $11. A credit or debit card must be used to process payment. The name on the credit or debit card must match the person ordering the record. You will get certificates ordered online within three business days.
