Sorting Out the Confusion About ADHD Stats and Looking at Safe Treatment Options

11
Did you know that more than half of the 4 million children with ADHD, are on psychostimulant drugs? We do not know anything about the other half or very little. But this is one of the most alarming of the all the ADHD stats. This would seem to suggest that they are not being treated and or their parents are unaware of this mental condition or simply choose to ignore it for financial or social reasons.

It also means that there is a very high percentage of children carrying this condition into adulthood. The losses and dangers to society are enormous and not only in economic terms. There are implications for relationships, crime, drug addiction and car accidents.

There is a lot of talk about the connection between ADHD and food allergies. These ADHD stats are rather interesting in that they point up the fact that this is a very minor cause and can only marginally impinge on the condition. The latest statistic shows that only 2% of ADHD cases are directly related to food allergies or sensitivities.

Another one of the ADHD stats which seems to contradict many educationalists is that fact that only about 20% of all the children with ADHD have learning disabilities. Most people assume that that figure is about 100%. This has enormous implications about how we educate and teach our kids. Certainly they will need special attention under Section 504 but it does not mean that they are not intelligent, creative and bright.

Of all the ADHD stats out there, the most alarming is the fact that there is an extremely large percentage of children still being treated with powerful mind altering drugs which also happen to be controlled substances! The main ones on the market to-day are Concerta, Vyvanse and Adderall.

ADHD stats show us that after three years, the effects of these drugs tend to wear off. They are not the complete answer to the ADHD problem as child behavior modification techniques have to be in place as well.

Apart from all the worry about drug addiction and some rather nasty side effects, parents are now looking for options which are much safer and will not be in demand at all on the school parking lot. The most promising of these treatments is homeopathy and much scorned by the medical community. But there is no need to take that too seriously as the ADHD homeopathic remedies in my website below are not only manufactured in a FDA approved facility but are also listed in the HPUS.
