People often embroider a person's name, anniversary or birth date onto a piece of canvas. In addition, simple designs can be made with needlepoint. Needlepoint pieces make excellent gifts, or they can be created in a holiday theme and displayed during various holiday seasons. Crewel

• Crewel is an embroidery craft that highlights bright and bold designs. Crewel is an excellent embroidery craft for a person just beginning. Crewel uses a fine wool yarn. This yarn yields bright yet simple designs, as intricate designs cannot be crafted with the wool. A person can use crewel to make a wall decoration for a home, or to design throw pillows and bed covers. Many crewel patterns are colorful floral designs. Crewel crafts can also include wall hangings, table cloths and placemats, as well as Christmas stockings and even decorative buttons for sweaters.
