Army Ranger Salary

1

    Base Pay

    • Rangers receive a base pay based on their rank and time in service. The Army has three different types of pay grades. The enlisted ranks include privates, corporals and sergeants and have pay grades from E-1 to E-9. The highest-ranking Rangers are officers with pay grades between O-1 and O-10. In between officers and the enlisted are warrant officers with pay grades between W-1 and W-5. The number of years in service also determines the base pay. An E-6 (staff sergeant) with eight years in service earns less than an E-6 with 8 years. As of 2011 the base pay for enlisted begins at $1,467.6 a month for a brand new E-1 to $7,195.80 for an E-9 with over 40 years service. The pay scale in 2011 for warrant officer's pay ranges between $2,721 to $8295.90 and officer's pay ranges from $2,784 to 18,936.90.

    Special Duty Pay

    • Rangers often find themselves in situations where they receive monthly special duty pay. As of 2011, this pay includes jump pay of $150, hazardous duty pay of $150, combat or hostile fire pay of $225 a month. This income is additional monthly income above and beyond the base pay. When the Ranger is located in a combat zone, neither his special duty pay nor his base pay are taxable income.

    Housing and Food Allowances

    • Married Rangers or Rangers who do not live in the barracks receive Basic Allowance for Substance and Basic Allowance for Housing pay. This pay is not taxable income since single Rangers live in the barracks and eat at the military dining facility free of charge. Enlisted receive $325.04 per month for BAS and officers receive $223.84 per month for BAS in 2011. BAH depends on where the Ranger lives and if a Cost of Living Adjustment is required due to location.

    Other Benefits

    • Rangers receive all of the benefits other services and specialties receive. Veterans Affairs provide housing and education benefits. The Army provides health care, family support and provides the Ranger and his family a community. Rangers are also part of a fraternity who know what it means to earn the Ranger tab and serve their country in the armed forces.
