Definition: Growth plate fractures are specific injuries that occur to a part of the bone called the physis. The physis is the location in the bone where growth of the skeleton occurs.

Growth plate fractures are described by the Salter-Harris classification system.  The injuries require appropriate treatment to ensure that future bone growth is not impaired.
