How to Install a 7-Pole Trailer Plug for a 2005 Dodge
- 1). Remove the taillight's from the vehicle by unscrewing the fasteners with a screwdriver.
- 2). Turn the vehicle's ignition to the "Power On" position. Turn on the marker lights using the driver's controls.
- 3). Connect the alligator clip of the 12-volt test light to a section of bare metal near the rear taillight. Probe the bare wires with the test light's probe until it illuminates. You have found the power wire for the marker lights. Repeat this step to find the power wires for the left and right signal and backup lights.
- 4). Connect the 7-way harness's green wire to the power wire for the right turn signal with a scotch lock connector. These work by placing one wire in each groove and closing the gate. Using the scotch lock connectors connect the harness's yellow wire to the left turn signal, the brown wire to the marker lights and the purple wire to the the reverse lights.
- 5). Connect the harness's blue wire to the brake controllers blue wire with a butt connector. These work by placing one stripped wire in each end and compressing with pliers.
- 6). Connect the harness's red wire to the 12-gauge insulated wire using a butt connector. Run this wire along the side of the vehicle the interior fuse panel. You can hide the wire by pushing it up into the edge of the interior panels. Connect the end of the wire to a fuse tap using a butt connector. Push the fuse connector into a empty slot in the fuse panel.
- 7). Connect the harness's white wire to a black wire at the taillight. This will be the lighting system's ground connection.
- 8). Wrap all connections in electrical tape and fasten any loose wires with cable ties.
