How to Dry Fruit Seeds
- 1). Cut the fruit open with the knife to expose the area of the seeds. Use the spoon to scoop the seeds from the fruit.
- 2). Remove as much of the pulp as possible with your fingers. Place the remaining pulp and seeds into the large-mouth jar. Fill the jar with warm water and cover.
- 3). Allow the seed, water and pulp mixture to sit until the contents begin to smell. This can take from one day up to a week depending on the seed type and environment. This fermentation process will remove the pulp from the viable seeds.
- 4). Rinse the jar with fresh water to remove the pulp. Pour the remaining contents into a strainer and rinse the seeds with fresh water. Run your fingers through the seeds to remove any clinging particles. Place the seeds back into the jar.
- 5). Fill the jar with water. Swirl the water and seeds. The good seeds will remain on the bottom of the jar; seeds that are not viable will float to the top. Pour off the floating seeds and discard.
- 6). Place the good seeds on the screen. Set the screen and seeds in a warm place to dry. Do not exceed 100 degrees and keep the seeds from direct sunlight. The seeds are dry when they are placed between fingernails and are difficult to break open.
- 7). Store the dry seeds in a sealed jar, preferably in the refrigerator between 34 and 38 degrees. Do not allow the seeds to freeze.
