How to Take Blood Pressure With a Monitor
- 1). Sit in a chair with your legs uncrossed and feet on the floor.
- 2). Strap the arm cuff of the blood pressure monitor on your upper arm, about 1 inch above your elbow. Rest that arm on a table with your palm facing up.
- 3). Place your back against the chair, and take a few deep breaths to relax. This will calm you, giving you a more accurate reading.
- 4). Turn the blood pressure monitor on, and press "Start" to begin measuring your blood pressure. Relax while the machine does its work.
- 5). Read your blood pressure measurements when the machine displays the two numbers and the arm cuff begins to loosen. Record these measurements in a notebook so you can compare them to future readings.
