How to Reduce Creosote on Fireplace Glass
- 1). Sift 4 to 6 cups of ash with a sifter or strainer to remove any wood debris.
- 2). Fill a bucket with the ash and several cups of water, until the mixture has the consistency of glue.
- 3). Spread a drop cloth around your fireplace to catch any mess and to prevent any damage to your floor.
- 4). Use a sponge or cloth to spread the mixture on the inside of the fireplace glass. The ash will help break down and remove the creosote.
- 5). Allow the mixture to sit on the creosote buildup for 10 to 15 minutes.
- 6). Fill a second bucket with warm water. Use a sponge or towel to wipe away the ash mixture.
- 7). Dry the inside of the doors with a clean towel. Clean them with a traditional glass cleaner to remove any other stains, if necessary.
