Create a Clone Copy by choosing File > Quick Clone. Now you have a clone copy of the filtered image with a cleared canvas and Tracing Paper on. Short-cut key for Tracing Paper is Ctrl + T. Toggle the tracing paper off and on from time to time to view your progress.
Save again, and make a habit of saving sequentially. It really is not hard and will make your work flow much faster. Use the Save As command from the Windows menu.
