Foods to Avoid With High Triglycerides

1

    Saturated Fats

    • The Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF) strongly recommends avoiding foods that are high in saturated fat if you already are struggling with high triglycerides. Limit your consumption of butter, fried foods, cheese and whole milk.

    Trans Fats

    • Trans fats should also be avoided because they can further increase your triglyceride levels, according to the PAMF. Trans fats are found in packaged and processed foods that list partially hydrogenated oil in the ingredients.

    Sugar

    • Avoid foods that are high in sugar, like candy, soft drinks and ice cream. According to the Mayo Clinic, sugary foods cause your blood sugar to spike, which may further increase your triglycerides.

    Alcohol

    • The PAMF has also found that certain compounds in alcohol may raise triglyceride levels. This means that beer, wine and liquor are all off limits while you attempt to reduce your triglycerides.

    Cholesterol

    • The Mayo Clinic recommends avoiding foods that are high in cholesterol when you have high triglycerides. Stick to less than 200 mg of cholesterol per day, and avoid animal products like eggs, fatty cuts of meat and high-fat dairy.
