Saving Water in Your Bathroom

19
Did you know that most water in the US is used in the bathroom, almost 75%, and the statistics are similar in many other places? If you are looking to save water, an environmentally sound practice we should all follow, the bathroom is where you should start.
Let's look at the shower first.
Shorter showers make a lot of sense and save lots of water.
A 30 minute shower takes an enormous amount of water and the shower really shouldn't be a place to hang out.
Other countries also find the US obsession with daily showing pr bathing to be absurd.
It's something to think about.
You can also install low flow showerheads which will save a lot too.
My local hardware store has then for about $20 and even I can install them myself, and I am not at all handy.
Shower heads are so good today that you may not even feel the difference, but your water bill will.
Toilets of course use a lot of water too.
Is yours leaking at all.
Many do and have a constantly drip of usage.
This is a drain you can do without and should look into if you hear any of them constantly or occasionally running for no reason.
I suggest adding some food coloring to the tank and seeing if it somehow magically gets into the bowl.
If it does, that means a leak.
You can also put a brick or two in the tank to reduce usage per flush.
Leaky faucets are of course a problem too and should be fixed.
It might just be a washer you can get at the hardware store and perhaps they can tell you how to replace it yourself.
It's mot hard.
To save water, you want to start where most of it is used.
That's the bathrooms in most houses, and the place to begin, but don't stop there.
They are likely other places you can save as well.
