Caribbean Cruises That Include Cozumel
- Mexico's Cozumel welcomes over two million visitors per year, according to Isla Cozumel, the island's official tourism website. First settled in 300 A.D. by Mayans, the area is home to historic ruins, a large reef system, blue waters and 80-degree days. Cozumel is a popular Caribbean cruise port and travelers wishing to come by sea can choose from options including a cruise with just as much to do on the ship as off, a trip with an Italian flavor or a family-friendly cruise with a cast of "characters."
- Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas is one of the two biggest ships in the company's fleet as of September 2010. The 220,000 gross ton vessel accommodates 5,400 passengers. The seven-night itinerary leaves from Ft. Lauderdale and takes passengers to Royal Caribbean's private island, Labadee, Haiti, in addition to Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico. Guests are afforded three sea days to enjoy the ship and her amenities such as the boardwalk area, adults-only solarium, Youth Zone and zip line. The Allure's dining options include the standard buffet and banquet dining along with several specialty restaurants including a Mystery Dinner Theatre. Royal Caribbean offers Cozumel excursions for those who so desire. In addition to standard snorkeling and beach days, the cruise line collaborates with the American Red Cross. As part of a "voluntourism" joint effort, guests sign up and pay to volunteer planting trees and shrubs at the Red Cross site and then head to the beach.
- The Italian MSC line, once known for smaller, no-frills ships, has upgraded its fleet but kept its Italian feel. The MSC Poesia sails from Port Everglades in Ft. Lauderdale and stops in Key West, Ocho Rios, Georgetown and Cozumel. Cruisers on the Poesia enjoy two full sea days. The ship holds 2,550 passengers at double occupancy. The majority of cabins consist of outside rooms with balconies, although the ship also offers inside rooms and suites. All rooms are equipped with a flat screen TV, mini bar and safe. Activities aboard include mini golf, Turkish baths, a casino, disco, and activities for kids 3 to 17. Guests choose from several dining options including the general dining room and a sushi bar. As of September 2010 there are no Cozumel excursions available through the cruise line.
- The Art Deco themed Disney Magic departs from Port Canaveral and transports cruisers to the ports of Key West, Grand Cayman, Cozumel and Disney's privately owned Castaway Cay. The seven-night Western Caribbean cruise provides guests two sea days to enjoy the ship's amenities. The Magic holds 2,400 passengers at double occupancy. The family-friendly ship provides spacious state rooms and split bathrooms. While the ship does not have a casino, it does have an adult's-only pool and an adult's-only specialty restaurant. Children's activities include a kid's club, kid's pool, teen lounge, arcade and Disney character interaction. The nightly main dining rotates guests at three different onboard restaurants. Cozumel excursion choices include visits to Mayan ruins, an eco park experience, horseback riding and beach trips.
