    Trinity Concepts

    • The underlying principles of the Holy Trinity are basically the same: three persons, one God. Although the entire concept is already a common cause for debate among various religious denominations, referring to such passages as Colossians 1:15-17; Luke 1:30-35; Matthew 28:19-20; John 1:1-3; Mark 1:9-11; and Genesis 1:1-2 will surely capture the essence of three persons working together as one God to achieve profundity beyond argument and explanation. By sharing parallel stories of how people work together to reach a common goal, the Trinitarian concepts will drive home the importance of sharing team loads and achieving key objectives.

    Synergy Concepts

    • Before Jesus appointed the 12 apostles as a group of special men tasked to evangelize and share the good news to all men, he asked for wisdom and guidance from his father. He had to consider that these men would share with him in his entire ministry life, so he needed to choose only the worthy ones. Fortunately enough, 11 of them delivered as they were “designed” to. Despite their individuality, they worked toward one goal: spreading God’s word. If this concept is taken side by side with Ephesians 2:19-20 and then connected to the inherent values of team building, then synergy concepts can effectively foster unity in the middle of diversity.

    Specialty Concepts

    • People are not born into a team; they are chosen as independent but cooperative members. A leader knows that a team cannot move forward if all the members have the same characteristics or skills. There should be a balance between the strengths and weaknesses of each member. In Mark 2:14-17, Christ calls a tax collector named Levi (eventually changed to Matthew); in Luke 5: 4-7, he calls four fishermen; in Luke 6:15, he invites Simon the zealot to apostleship. All of these acts indicate the way Christ himself worked toward building a team of different and skilled individuals who could effectively provide the kind of support that their ministry demanded.

    Trust Concepts

    • A perfect leader and perfect training does not guarantee effective teamwork. Trust is probably the one factor that builds a team more effectively. When Christ installed Peter to head His church (Matthew 16:13-20), he did not only appoint a head, but also subliminally instructed the others to trust one another in their ministry. This is a component that should never be discounted from a team equation.
