Nashville Star 4 - Episode 7
< Continued from page 2
Next to perform is Matt Mason.
In his pre-recorded clip, we see Matt going home to Fairlane, IN.
"Hello, I'm Matt Mason. Pleasant, IN is where I'm from, and the town is so small that we haven't even got a post office, so we go to Fairlane. We're heading to my mom's house right now. This is what it's like the whole way out. Fields everywhere. I used to go frogging over there. They cut to his mom fixing a special dinner for him. She says, 'This is Matt's birthday meal. He gets it every November 11th, and that's about the only time he gets it, 'cause it's too much trouble to make all the time.' Matt's dad says, 'Matt Mason is almost a household name in the Indianapolis area. People everywhere know who Matt Mason is.' We see Matt promoting his benefit at a radio station, and they show him singing. He says he loves his hometown, but if he didn't move down to Nashville to pursue his dream, he might have grown up being lonesome, on'ry and mean."
Matt performs "Lonesome, On'ry and Mean."
Phil: I think you do what you do. I think there's definitely a place for you in Nashville. I really think you need to get a record deal. I love what you do. It's that old soul thing.
Anastasia: Any outlaw around the world has been revered because they've done it your way, their way, and you've done it your way, this entire competition, which is what I respect about you. I know you're gonna live your dream. I don't know if America's gonna make you the Nashville Star, but I do know you're gonna live your dream.
Duff: I think America should man. They need someone like you. That gnarly baritone voice you have, and that true outlaw, old school country thing. You rock!
Wynonna: Country needs on'ry. I'm on'ry. You're on'ry.
Matt: ...and mean.
Wynonna: That's right. And, you're from a very small town, but you had thousands of young women to watch you sing. How did it feel, Matt Mason?
Matt: It was a good show. It was much more than I was used to.
Wynonna: Come on, young chicks, digging your hair?
Matt: Playing with it, and everything? It was wonderful.
Wynonna: Matt Mason, everybody.
My Thoughts: Matt did a really good job. Not as good as Casey or Nicole though. You can tell that he does indeed do things his way in his music, with his song choices, and the way he sings them.
