How to Make a Burn Barrel
- 1). Find a sturdy metal barrel in good shape. This means little evidence of rust and no rusted-out holes in the barrel. Be sure to check the bottom of the barrel as well.
- 2). Cut three holes in the barrel near ground level. The holes should be 3 square-inches and be evenly spaced. This provides ventilation for the fire.
- 3). Cut the screening to a size slightly larger than the holes and screw the screen into the inside of the barrel, over each hole. This prevents sparks or burning debris from starting a fire.
- 4). Lay a sheet of metal screening over the top of the barrel when burning material. This prevents sparks from flying out to the grass and causing a fire. You can remove the screen, while wearing heavy gloves, long enough to add more debris to the barrel.
