Ferrari 355 Performance
- The F355's engine was a 3.5-liter V8 having five valves per cylinder and double overhead camshafts. The engine developed 375 horsepower at 8,250 rpm with an 8,500 rpm redline. Torque was 268 foot-pounds at 6,000 rpm. The car could reach 183 mph and had a 0 to 62 mph acceleration time of 4.7 seconds.
- The racing-inspired F1 paddle-shifter was first used on the F355. It is a computerized system triggered by two paddles, one on either side of the steering wheel. Tapping the left one downshifted one gear, tapping the right upshifted. You could also put the transmission in a fully automatic mode. The F355 was also available with a standard six-speed manual transmission.
- Ferrari engineers aimed for superior handling in the F355 over its predecessor. The F355's suspension featured independent, unequal-length wishbones for the front and rear and coil springs over gas-filled shock absorbers. The shocks incorporated sensors and the suspension's electronic controller took into account the car's speed, braking, suspension load and steering. The car used Brembo ventilated disk brakes with anti-lock braking system (ABS) standard. Around a skidpad, the F355 managed .98g acceleration and turned in a 64.3 mph performance through a slalom.
