How to Obtain a State ID Number for a LLC Company in Missouri
- 1). Log on to the Missouri Secretary of State's "Online Registration for LLC's" page. Read the instructions for more information on your type of LLC. You can choose to do the application online by going to "click here to begin online registration." As of 2010, you will need a credit card to pay the $50 online fee.
If you need to submit a paper form, print the Articles of Incorporation from the Online Registration page. - 2). Fill out the "Registration of Limited Liability Company" application online, and submit it electronically.
As of 2010, if you're doing the paper version, mail it with the $105 application fee to the address listed at the top of the Articles of Incorporation paperwork. - 3). Wait for correspondence from the Missouri Secretary of State regarding the Charter Number or a Certificate of Authority number for your LLC. You'll need your charter number or Certificate of Authority number to apply for your tax ID numbers in the following steps.
- 4). Log on to the Internal Revenue Service's "Apply for Employer Identification Number (EIN) Online" page. Fill out the application online and submit it to the IRS. Bear in mind that the online assistant is only open during IRS business hours, so plan accordingly.
- 5). Log on to the Missouri Department of Revenue's "Online Business Registration" page to register for a state Tax Identification Number and an Unemployment Tax Number. The combined application is available online from the Registration page. You can also print the form from the Registration page and either mail it or hand it in in person at the addresses listed on the form.
