How to Find a Birth Date of an Adopted Child
- 1). Ask the agency you have adopted the child from. They would most likely be the best starting point for this kind of query.
- 2). Look over the child's birth certificate. The date of birth will be on the original birth certificate as well as the certificate issued after the baby has been adopted.
- 3). Contact the public records department in the state that the child was born in. You can access public records, which include birth dates, in the capitals of all 50 states. You can go in person to access the information or write to them asking for your child's birth date or a copy of the birth certificate. You will need to know the child's name at birth in order to do this. Other information, such as what city the child was born in and approximately what year she was born are helpful as well.
- 4). Find the city where the child was born, if he was born out of the country. You may be able to obtain foreign public records that include the date of birth. Contact the agency or orphanage your child was adopted from to see if this is possible. You will need information such as the child's birth name and place of birth, although this information may not be readily available in some circumstances.
