How to Paint Exterior Vinyl Surfaces With Latex Paint
- 1). Trim away any vegetation that may interfere with your ability to paint the exterior vinyl surfaces.
- 2). Clean the exterior vinyl surfaces using a pressure washer.
- 3). Allow the surface to dry completely.
- 4). Abrade the exterior vinyl surfaces by sanding them with a palm sander loaded with 120-grit sandpaper. Do not over-sand the vinyl. Stop sanding when it feels slightly rough.
- 5). Protect any areas you do not want painted with fabric drop cloths and painter's tape.
- 6). Apply latex bonding primer to the vinyl surfaces using a roller. Apply only a thin coat, or you may end up with runs.
- 7). Allow the primer to dry and cure for four hours.
- 8). Apply two coats of exterior acrylic latex paint in the same manner as you did the primer. Allow two hours of dry time between coats.
