Check In

• Plan to arrive at the airport early. For most airports, Delta recommends arriving at least 1 ½ hours before your plane is scheduled for departure if you are traveling within the continental United States. For International travel, plan on arriving a minimum of 2 to 3 hours early in order to make it to the departure gate on time. To save time at the airport, you can use the Delta homepage to check in online 24 hours prior to your scheduled departure.
  
  

Identification

• At the counter, you will need to present the Delta agent with at least one piece of valid, government issued photo ID, such as a driver's license, state identification card, military ID, or passport. Alternatively, you may present the ticketing agent with two forms of non-photo identification, although at least one of them must be issued by a government agency. Once your identification has been verified, you will be issued your ticket and be given an opportunity to check your bags. For travel outside the United States, you will need a valid passport and any other relevant travel documents, such as a visitor's visa, if required. You should be aware that passports are now required for travel from the USA to both Canada and Mexico.
  
  

Baggage

• Be mindful of changing baggage policies when you pack your luggage. Delta allows passengers to bring one personal item, such as a jacket, purse or umbrella, and one carry-on bag onto the plane free of charge. The carry on bag must weigh less than 40 pounds and must not be greater than 45 total inches in size. For a fee, passengers who are traveling within the United States are also allowed to check two larger pieces of luggage at the counter when they arrive. International travellers can check one to two bags without incurring additional fees, depending on their destination. Each checked bag must weigh less than 50 pounds and cannot exceed 62 total inches in size. Delta does not allow animals to be checked as baggage; however, if you call at least 48 hours ahead of time, you may be able to arrange to have your pet shipped as cargo on your flight.
