How to Remove Fresh Deer Antlers From Skull Sockets

22
    • 1). Put on your heavy-duty rubber gloves before you start to remove the deer antlers. Make a cut between the eye sockets of the deer with the bone saw. Take this cut all the way to the base of the antlers and then remove the skull cap.

    • 2). Boil a large pot of water. The pot will have to be large enough to accomodate the skull cap of the deer. After the water is boiling, put the skull cap in the water and let it boil for about 30 minutes.

    • 3). Remove the skull cap from the water and let it cool for about 10 minutes. Notice a depression where the antlers start. Use the bone saw to cut the antlers free from the skull cap, starting at this point. This should take about five to 10 minutes. If you had not boiled the skull cap, it would take 30 to 45 minutes to saw through this tissue.

    • 4). Use chlorine bleach to clean and disinfect your saw and pot. Let both of them air dry when you are finished cleaning them. Place the rubber gloves in a plastic bag and throw them out. Do not attempt to use them again.
