Booking a Magician For Your Wedding - The Lowdown
If you are reading this I will assume that you have already decided that you are going to book the services of a magician for your wedding reception and that entertainment is an important factor for your special day.
Most weddings follow the format of: ceremony, drinks reception, wedding breakfast and evening reception.
Magic is a wonderful form of entertainment for any of these parts of the day, except of course the actual ceremony.
During the drinks reception (while the photographer takes different groups of people to be photographed) your guest start to mingle, magic is the ideal way to break the ice and have your guests share in unexplainable wonder and amazement.
During the wedding breakfast a table-hopping magician will help to create an atmosphere of wonder and ripples of applause will be heard from different tables to add to the ambient sounds.
After the wedding breakfast and speeches have finished there is a period before the evenings entertainment has really got into its full swing and the rest of the evenings guests have yet to arrive, during that time a strolling magician will add excitement to your special day.
For the wonderfully colourful and large scale Asian wedding that I perform at, the number of guests and magicians is a factor.
Performing recently at the Alexander Palace, at a wedding reception with over 100 tables, each seating ten people, it would have been an impossible task for me alone to entertain everyone; fortunately I was working this event with back up, just as I do at other large events.
If you are going to have more than one Magician at your wedding it is important that their styles are different yet complimentary, most magicians will know other working professionals that they get on well with and compliment their style.
How much should I expect to pay? Remember you are booking a professional entertainer, someone who dose it for a living and not an amateur (it's your wedding day, you want to have a professional on the job; you wouldn't let just anyone cook the wedding breakfast now would you?) Just like any professional they have bills to pay, rent or mortgages, accountants, advertising etc.
you can expect to pay somewhere around £300 - £550, most professional magicians will send you a contract or booking form and ask for a deposit, this way you have piece of mind that all the details are correct and the deposit will secure your booking.
One last thing to check, do make sure that they have Public Liability Insurance, just in case.
