One Devonshire Gardens
Described once as the main reason to visit the Victorian City of Glasgow, Number One Devonshire Gardens is quite unlike anywhere you will have stayed at or eaten in before.
Just for a start you will have to ring the front doorbell when you arrive, and even the best travelled, wealthy guest will not be prepared for what they will find inside. Once described by Leonard Bernstein as inspirational, and pure theatre, it certainly wows the most travel weary and even cynical guest.
Ringing the front door bell is the most exhausting thing you will do when you stay at One Devonshire Gardens, which is three Victorian townhouses which were built towards the end of the nineteenth century, and beautifully refurbished, and of course joined together to make what is arguably the best boutique hotel in Scotland.
The service at One Devonshire Gardens is better than faultless and words like superb just don't do it justice. If Glasgow wasn't such an interesting city to see, possibly even the greatest surviving example of a Victorian city in Great Britain, there would be no reason to leave for anything because the restaurant lives up to its publicity and reputation.
It is the kind of place where the seriously wealthy will feel as if they are at home in the kind of very exclusive club they are so familiar with, and for the rest of us who are lucky and well off enough to stay there, then we will feel we have died and gone to heaven.
One Devonshire Gardens is a place where you are not just looked after by the staff you are positively spoilt from the moment you ring that door bell until you depart. It is nicely and quietly situated in the leafy fashionable west End part of Glasgow. You therefore feel part of, yet apart from the hustle and bustle, and this just adds to the feeling of exclusivity, although the hugely impressive furnishings, upholstery, decorating, four poster beds, and crackling fires do help.
One Devonshire Place is the right destination to impress a partner, a wife, or even a husband.
