Appearance

• Dachshund puppies enter the world with elongated bodies and extremely short legs. They have large, oval-shaped paws. Their snouts are extended with large noses to round out their distinctive appearance. Their hair can be in three varying textures, from wiry to long or smooth. The American Kennel Club states that standards can weigh 16 to 32 lbs., while miniatures can weight as much as 11 lbs. They are known for their noisy barking capacity.
  
  

Natures

• Dachshund puppies have an innate intuition and a natural commitment to their owners. They enjoy being close to people and have a harder time coping with outsiders. They can become anxious when separated from their beloved owners hence their barking begins. They have a tendency to be playfully naughty that goes along with their strong nature. Their tendency is toward friendliness and they do not tend to be aggressive. They can, however, be prone to displaying signs of jealousy, causing them at times to be short-tempered.
  
  

Training

• Because dachshunds have genetically strong natures, it is harder to train them. It is important when your dachshund puppy begins residing in your home that he knows who is in control. You can be strict and kind at the same time. Attention, along with patience, in dealing with your dachshund is essential for a positive outcome. Dachshunds do not respond well to too much strictness. Crate training may be another outlet and obedience training classes can also be beneficial.
  
  

Grooming

• The grooming routine for dachshund puppies requires a little more time and attention. The reason is because their bodies are close to the ground, which would make them more apt to pick up grass, twigs and burrs that stick in their hair. This requires daily maintenance and daily brushing, also utilized as a preventative measure.
  
  

Health Issues

• The unfortunate downside of raising dachshund puppies is that they are more apt to suffer from health issues. They are more prone to having a spinal disorder that is a result of their extensive spinal column, along with a shorter rib cage. Ant-inflammatory medications may be prescribed by the veterinarian. It may sometimes be serious enough to require surgery. Dachshunds also can suffer from obesity, epilepsy and a number of eye diseases.
