• Costume parties are a lot of fun, but deciding what to dress as is always a conundrum. You can take some of the stress out of deciding by picking a group costume and have fun dressing up with your friends. • Most people like music, and iconic music acts often had great styles and costumes. Music groups that had long careers, such as the Beatles, offer a variety of dress styles. With music videos, you can dress the way a band looked in a particularly interesting video, such as Devo's cylindrical hats in the video of "Whip It."You also can sing a song by the group to burst out in the midst of your costume party.
  
  

TV Shows

• With reoccurring casts, TV shows offer a wealth of group costume ideas. Characters in TV shows also often wear the same clothes, or similar ones, so dressing like them is fairly easy. Animated shows, such as "The Simpsons," "Futurama" and "Scobby Doo" usually have distinctive and unchanging character designs, so dressing as a group of characters from one of these shows is fun and instantly recognizable.
  
  

Movies

• Movie characters often have iconic looks, so they can be a good basis for group costumes. Practice lines or a scene from the movie for a fun party trick. Choose a movie in which the characters are dressed in a particular way, such as "The Wizard of Oz."
  
  

Video Games

• Video games have become as much a part of our shared culture as TV and movies. They also feature colorful characters that are fun to dress up as. The Mario games have colorful heroes, enemies, bosses and ancillary characters. Other game series, such as Kirby, Zelda, Sonic, Fallout and Metal Gear Solid, have many characters to choose from.
