Searching For the Investing "Holy Grail"? - Look Inside Yourself
It seems like investors have searched for a financial "Holy Grail" probably as far back as when the Knights of the Round Table were around; and many with just as much ardor.
Anyone who has recently attempted to find the "Holy Grail" of investing (or trading) has probably spent a lot of time and lost a lot of money doing so.
I plead guilty in that regard.
Many investors continue to seek the ever elusive perfect system but give up doing so believing that, like unicorns, it doesn't exist.
According to many skeptics, the best advice is to quit looking for it because doing so only ends in disaster.
My response to that is-it depends.
I think you'd agree, it's difficult to find something unless you know what to look for.
So the first question to ask is, "what exactly is the "Holy Grail" of investing?" Is it a utopian concept that is ultimately unattainable? Or is it actually something more utilitarian and useful to investors in their attempts to invest profitably and consistently.
If it is found, can it be used by the masses or might it be more personal in nature? In my opinion, the search for the Holy Grail is a uniquely personal quest.
I believe that one man's Holy Grail may be another man's piece of junk.
Why? Because no two people are alike.
You have to know yourself.
You have to know what you are seeking regarding your investing goals, decisions and results.
You have to know how much risk you can tolerate, what your goals are, what your timeframe is, etc.
Once I knew what I was looking for, the search became much easier.
I knew my personal Holy Grail had to be 1) systematized, 2) predictable and repeatable, 3) followed by me as religiously as my search for it, 4) as emotion-less as possible, 4) as low-risk as possible, and 5) profitable in most market environments.
I know myself.
I know my investing Holy Grail does not exist outside myself.
It's uniquely personal.
Once I found it, it was all up to me to use it wisely.
There is and was no short-cut.
Be introspective.
Find yourself as an investor or trader first.
Do so and I believe it will be much easier for you to subsequently find your "Holy Grail".
