How to Tie a Swiss Army Seat
- 1). Grip the section of rope by the middle and place the mid-point of the rope on the hip opposite your strong hand -- if you're right handed, the middle of the rope is on your left hip. Pass the rope around your waist, keeping the midpoint in place so you have a long section and a short section in front of you at your navel.
- 2). Pass the long section under and then over the short section, as when you start tying your shoes. Perform this move once again for a double-overhand knot. Pull snug, but not overly tight, much like a belt. Let the ends of the rope hang straight down from your waste.
- 3). Reach down and behind your legs and grab each end of the rope. Pass the ends up under the rope around your waist just above your back pockets. Squat as you pull on the ends of the ropes to tighten them in place. Tie off each side with a half-hitch by passing the end of the rope behind the section across your buttock to create a loop; pull the end back through the loop toward your front.

Tie the rope into a square knot at your hip.reef knot image by bluedelta from Fotolia.com
Bring each end of the rope to your starting hip -- your left hip if you're right handed and vice versa. Tie a square knot by passing the right end over and then under the left end. Now that the ends have switched sides, take the new right end and pass it over and then under the new left end. Pull the ends to tighten the square knot. - 5). Tie a half-hitch on either side of the square knot. Pass one end of the rope behind the rope around your waist and then over the waist-rope and behind the standing end (the part you just passed under the waist-rope) creating a loop. Pull the end of the rope through the loop away from the square knot and pull tight. Repeat on the opposite side of the square knot. Tuck any excess rope in your pocket.

Locking the carabiner will prevent the rope from coming loose at the wrong time.carabiner image by Jakub Cejpek from Fotolia.com
Clip the carabiner under the rope at your navel. Include both the twisted section and the straight section inside the clip. Position the carabiner so its locking nut is close to your body. Screw down the locking nut.
