How to Recline Chairs Back
- 1). Sit in the chair so your back is fully against the back of the chair.
- 2). Locate the reclining mechanism, if there is one. Some chairs have buttons either on the inside or outside of the right armrest. Others have a handle near the bottom of the chair on the right-hand side, while others don't use a mechanism to recline at all. Press the button or pull the handle to start reclining.
- 3). Place your left hand on the arm rest and push with your back and your arm while lifting your feet to allow the foot rest to lift. If your chair doesn't have a mechanism to recline, put both arms on the arm rests and push back with your arms and your back while lifting your feet.
- 4). Recline further by pushing your butt forward and your shoulders back. You may or may not need to push on the arm rests, depending upon how much pressure is needed to move the chair.
