How to Replace Guitar Strings on an Epiphone Performer

1
    • 1). Lay the guitar face up on top of a soft cloth or towel.

    • 2). Use the string winder to release the tension on the top E string. Continue winding until you can unwrap the string from around the machine head.

    • 3). Use the Puller on the bridge peg to pop it out. It is a tapered peg that is pushed into the bridge until its width causes it to stick. It may be stiff, but there is no mechanism holding it in place; it just needs to be pulled clear.

    • 4). Put the metal ball end of the replacement string into the hole in the bridge. Replace the pin, making sure that the notched surface is facing toward the sound hole.

    • 5). Guide the string through the appropriate notches in the bridge saddle and the nut. Thread the string through the hole in the tuning peg and pull it taut.

    • 6). Back the string up, leaving about 5 centimeters of slack. This is equivalent to about the width of three fingers.

    • 7). Wind the string back up using the winder. Guide the string around the tuning post with your free hand so that each new wind of string lies below the last. This helps put more downward pressure on the string, which helps prevent fret buzz.

    • 8). Tune the string up to pitch using the tuner.

    • 9). Repeat the whole process on each of the other strings. Alternate between the treble and bass sides of the neck in the following sequence; High E, Low E, B, A, G, D. This helps keep a constant tension on the neck, which will prevent torsional warping.
