How to Identify the Sex of a Banana Spider
- 1). Locate a banana spider. Notice where it is located on its web and its orientation. Females usually hang upside down in the center of the web, while male banana spiders will be higher on the web and parallel to the ground.
- 2). Measure the banana spider. Females can be as much as five times the size of males, ranging from about 1 to 3 inches long.
- 3). Notice the color of the banana spider. Females are more brightly colored than males, exhibiting bright yellow abdomens with high-contrast spots, and black and yellow striped legs. Males look similar overall, but have a duller orange throughout their bodies.
