Candle Holders

• Empty wine bottles make inexpensive and multi-colored candle holders. Remove the label from the outside of the bottle by soaking the glass in hot, soapy water for 20 minutes. Paint the exterior of the bottle with acrylic paint. Black matte paint carries the Halloween theme well, and a silver reflective paint reflects the light from the candle. Once the paint has dried, insert a tapered candle, whether wax- or battery-operated. Plug up any remaining space in the hole of the bottle with wax or tape to hold the candle in place. Repeat the process with several different sizes of bottles for a themed centerpiece or decoration.
  
  

Jack o' Lantern

• Creatively recreate a Halloween Jack O' Lantern decoration with an empty wine bottle. Cut a themed shape, such as a cat with an arched back or a skull, out of a piece of black construction or scrapbook paper. Spray an adhesive onto the surface of the clean, unlabeled glass wine bottle. Carefully press the paper onto the bottle so that no air bubbles are left behind. Cut a 3-inch hole in the base of the bottle with a glass and tile drill bit. Insert a small flashlight into the hole and use duct tape to hold the light in place. Turn on the flashlight and watch your image shine through.
  
  

Pirate-Themed Decor

• For a pirate-themed party or a gathering that requires a soft light, create an authentic candle holder featuring wax drips. Carefully cut off the bottom of the bottle with a glass or tile cutter. Sand down the edges of the bottle. Cut a wooden base for your bottle to hold the candle. Place a battery-operated tea light in the center of the board. Place the base into the bottom of the bottle. Use a hot glue gun or melted candle wax to create the wax drips on the surface of the bottle. Turn on the tea light candle and step back to admire your work.
  
  

Painting

• Decorate a variety of empty wine bottles with a Halloween theme using acrylic paint. Remove the label from the bottle and dry it off. Print various Halloween themed images, such as a witch on her broom or a scary Jack O' Lantern. Paint the surface of the bottle with a flat, neutral shade, such as white or tan. Paint an image onto the surface of the bottle. Preserve the image with a clear acrylic sealant. Repeat the process with several different bottles. Display your painted images in a well-lighted area so the image will be more evident.
