Working Dogs Training: Patience Will Generate Rewards

2
The benefits from working dogs training cannot be emphasized enough.
Training a dog or even a group of dogs is going to take a lot of your time and even more of your patience if you want a successful working animal.
Some breeds of dog will be born with a certain amount of natural instinct in them.
This can make the training process easier in most cases but, it will still take your time and patience.
If you are thinking about buying a working dog then doing a little research on that breed can go a long way into showing you what is in store for you as far as training is concerned.
Once you have made your choice of breed you should not waste any time getting the training started.
A pup should not be removed from its mother before the age of around 8 to 10 weeks and the training would start with toilet and eating habits.
A dog will naturally want to be your friend as it will depend upon you for all its needs.
Their new home will be full of interesting things to do and explore.
They should even at this early age respond to a name call and will be a lot of fun to have around.
Do not be alarmed if at around the two to four month stage your dog tends to spend more time sleeping than any interest in working.
This is natural; they only seemed to be interested in sleeping, playing and going to the toilet.
Your puppy will be vulnerable at this stage in their life so extra care must be taken as to where they sleep and will not venture very far from their comfort zone when taking a toilet break.
As the puppy gets older they will tend to go farther afield for the toilet and this is a good time to have a designated area sorted out and as part of your working dogs training teach them to go there and only there.
It also makes life easier for you, no wandering around searching to clean up afterwards.
Between 5 and 6 months you may start to wonder why on earth you bought a dog in the first place, that cute little puppy is now finding its feet and will start to test your reserves of patience.
It won't come on command.
It does what it wants and when it wants to.
A good way to keep control of your dog is to tie a very long piece of rope to its collar, that way you can gently pull it back when you call it.
They will soon get the message that when you call they come.
Do not ever go to your dog when you call him/her.
If you intend to have your dog working this would be a good time to introduce them to your animals.
At the age of about one year you should see a marked improvement in your dog.
They will still want to chase anything and everything but how you coped in the early stages will show the benefits now.
At this point you can start with simple commands and work with a lead.
Bear in mind though working dogs need their space and are quite independent but they should still have a certain presence of you being around.
It is not until they reach around the two years old mark that you will have a dog that is fully aware of its surroundings and what is expected from him/her, this is when you will know that you're working dogs training has paid off.
