How to Decorate a Teenage Girl's Bedroom Out of Normal Household Items
- 1). Dig through the linen drawer for an old table runner to dress up a painted dresser. It's better if it's a bit faded; it will fit your daughter's casual style.
- 2). Decorate canning jars with old ribbons from the sewing box, and use them to hold items like pencils, cotton balls, cotton swabs, paper clips and other necessities.
- 3). Make a hanger for her earrings. Spray paint a twig with some white paint, and then attach buttons to it with thin wire from Dad's garage. Make a hanger for this by looping wire around the stick at each end. Attach the earring hanger to the wall. She can hang her earrings from the button holes.
- 4). Turn an old plant stand into a bedside table. Have your daughter add a coat of paint if it has started to look a little beat up. It's small enough to not be obtrusive and large enough to hold a phone or the latest paperback novel she's reading.
- 5). Create a picture frame from clothespins and an old window frame. Leave the glass in the frame. Glue clothespins to the outside of the frame, and screw picture hooks to the top of the frame. Loop some kitchen wire through the picture hooks. Attach photos to the outside of the frame, using the clothespins. Fill the panes with pictures. Hang the frame above her bed or desk.
- 6). Recycle some old wooden milk crates. Stack them so that they can serve as bookshelves.
- 7). Make decorative storage boxes. Get some old shoe boxes and cover them with a coat of paint; try some shabby chic colors like light pink or mint green. Allow the paint to dry. Decoupage the boxes to finish the look. Use pictures from old magazines.
- 8). Glue buttons, sequins, decorative beads and other items taken from the sewing box onto old picture frames. Insert family photos or other artwork in the frame and hang it anywhere in the room.
