Receive Hitches for Trucks

1
    • 1). Lower the under-bed spare tire to the ground and move it to the side to facilitate the installation of the hitch receiver. Slide under the rear of the truck and locate the factory-drilled hitch mounting holes in the bottom of the frame rails.

    • 2). Raise the hitch into position under the truck. Line up the mounting holes in the hitch receiver mounting flanges with the holes in the frame rails. Keep the hitch in position temporarily by tightening a "C" clamp to the hitch flange and frame rail on each side.

    • 3). Insert the hitch mounting bolts through the mounting holes in the top of the frame so that the threaded end of each bolt protrudes through the mounting holes on the underside of the hitch. Insert a lock washer onto the bolt, then tighten a nut onto the bolt finger-tight. Repeat for all bolts.

    • 4). Push a socket onto the end of a torque wrench and tighten the bolts and nuts to the tightness specified by the hitch maker. Loosen and remove the "C" clamps.

    • 5). Raise the spare tire back into place under the cargo bed.
