How to Use Credit Cards for Online Transactions
- 1). Choose the items you wish to purchase from an online site. All items should appear in your virtual "shopping bag" or "cart." Double-check to ensure that the items that appear in your "cart" are accurate. You will be charged for whatever items are in your "cart."
- 2). Click on the "checkout" button on the website. This button is usually located at the top right side of the webpage and on the bottom of your "shopping cart" page. After clicking this button, you will be prompted to either set up an account with the website or proceed directly to checkout. Regardless of which option you choose, you will be required to enter essentially the same information for each. The difference between the two options is that setting up an account will allow you to save certain personal information on the site such as billing methods and delivery addresses.
- 3). Enter the requested information to complete your transaction. You will be asked for your name, delivery address, billing address (if different than the delivery address), credit card number and expiration date. You also will be asked to choose a delivery option such as traditional postal service delivery or expedited delivery. Once you have entered the requested information, click the "submit order" button at the bottom of the page. If you have entered your credit card information correctly you should receive a screen thanking you for your order and providing you with a confirmation code for your purchase. Print this page or write down the confirmation code for your records.
