Are You a One-Trick Pony?

1
If you offer some kind of professional service, it is easy to get stuck doing just one thing for your clients.
While you may, for example, offer a range of coaching or web design services or therapies or personal training services, what could be "one thing" about it is your mode of delivery.
If you offer all of your services as one-to-one meetings, live presentations, one-hour sittings or one-day support services, you are greatly limiting:
  1. Your income;
  2. The number of people you reach and
  3. The contribution you make to your community.
If you are stuck in a "one trick pony" situation, the key to more money, a bigger reach and a deeper impact is to diversify the way you serve your clients! There is more than one way to meet your clients' needs and if you have only been providing coaching, training, consultations etc, you can be sure you are losing clients to your smarter, more diversified competitors.
When thinking of ways to diversify, consider all the possible formats in which you could serve your clients.
In addition to your one-to-one services, could you offer information products such as manuals, workbooks, CDs, DVDs, online forums and chat rooms or automated trainings? Could you pair up with other professionals to provide an enriched experience for your clients? E.

This could mean more clients, happier clients, repeat business and referrals, which all equals more money! Action Plan:
  • In what ways could you diversify your offerings to make more money, serve more people and make a bigger impact?
  • What could stop you from taking action to achieve this?
  • What are your options for overcoming these obstacles?
  • What do you stand to gain by diversifying your offerings? What could happen if you made this change?
  • What do your clients stand to gain if you diversify your offerings?
  • What do you stand to lose by not diversifying? What could happen if you did not make this change?
  • If diversifying is the way forward, write down 3 steps you will take to diversify your offerings and better serve your clients.
  • Fix "accomplish by" dates in your diary.
  • Write out a step-by-step plan to help you accomplish your goals within the given time frame.
  • Who could support you on your forward journey? Enlist the help of an accountability partner.
  • Set review dates when you will look back and see how you are doing.
  • Learn from any mistakes and reward yourself for progress!
