At the end of May, I attended a special concert in Einav Hall, Tel Aviv.
It was a unique concert, not merely on account of an interesting program, but more due to the performing artists: Yossi Arnheim, Micha Haran, Varda Kotler and Israel Kastoriano.
The program included works by Fauré, Debussy, Ravel, Chausson and others.
The translated lyrics were enclosed with the program.
Claude Debussy was an admired composer by virtue of his harmonies and melodic qualities.
The songs performed in the program are from his early period - songs that are by way of poetry.
Soprano Varda Kotler, performed these songs with delicate sentiments, vesting upon their charm a captivating expression, and they indeed excited the audience.
The concert also included works by Ravel, the Magical Flute and Songs of Madagascar, with the music that portrays the landscapes of Isle of Madagascar, its colors and exotic atmosphere.
Ravel expresses his sympathy with the naïve natives and their protest against the conquering white people.
The music performed by Yossi Arnheim, Micha Haran and Israel Kastoriano together with the singing of soprano Varda Kotlersucceeds in reflecting this special atmosphere, giving the audience a genuine artistic experience.
Even the solo work for cello and flute received a warm response of the audience.
A beautiful and exciting concert.
It is a pity that we are not exposed to many like it.
