Remove all the clutter from your attic; like a garage or basement, an attic is an area that ends up as storage central. Find a new home for your clutter or donate old items to charity. - 2

Lay a protective covering on the attic floor. Paint the attic with light colors as a way of keeping this space airy and bright. If you're craving a darker pop of color, create an accent wall by painting one wall a darker shade. - 3). Refinish the flooring if it is hardwood to give it a fresh, new look with a simple coat of stain. Rip up old carpet and add laminate or hardwood if you do not have current flooring that can be stained. Try to work with existing materials where possible as a way of keeping your budget on track.
- 4). Add a bed, dresser and nightstand to your attic. Give the room character by adding artwork to the walls (black or silver frames are always classic) and ensure the bedding coordinates with your personal taste. Weaving assorted fabrics through the room such as a satin bedspread, a velvet chair and an assortment of textured pillows gives character to a space.
- 5). Check out the entry to the attic; don't worry, you are almost finished with your do-it-yourself attic transformation. The attic entryway may need a fresh coat of paint in the stairwell or the addition of a few special family photos lining the wall.
