New York Jets Are on Their Way to Victory
The New York Jets are one of the most adored football teams in the AFC Eastern Division, along with the entire NFL.
The Jets are currently awaiting the completion of their new stadium - the Meadowlands Stadium, which should be ready to be played in for the 2010 season.
In the meantime, the Jets share a stadium with the New York Giants in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Regardless, fans cannot wait for the '09 season to start, and tickets are disappearing quickly.
Before being franchised into the NFL, the New York Jets were know as the Titans and were chartered members of the AFL.
It was at this time, in their career, that they became known as a great team, yet did not have the fan base to prove it.
They played in a stadium known as the Polo Grounds, but - unfortunately - there were many empty seats at home games.
This had nothing to do with their skill, they were a good team, but fans were more interested in the teams on the NFL side of things.
In 1963, after much discussion, the team was bought by a couple of everyday businessmen.
These men moved the team to Shea Stadium, and gave them their new name - the New York jets.
It wasn't until now that the Jets began to play as a team and acquire somewhat of a fan base.
The Jets started breaking records even back in this day; in fact, they were the first AFL team to beat, in history, an NFL team in a championship game.
Super Bowl III was the Jets first Super Bowl, their first Super Bowl win, and when they beat an NFL team as an AFL franchise.
Joe Namath aka "Broadway Joe" came to play for the Jets in the 60s; it was this addition to the team that go the attention of fans and the fan base began to grow.
Namath was one of the greatest players in his time, so much so that he was the first quarterback ever to throw 4000-yards in only one season.
In 1967, the same year of his throwing record, he ended the Jets season with an 8-5-1 record.
Then, in 1969, he brought the Jets to the AFL Championship where they won the title.
It was now apparent, to the NFL, that the AFL might be a threat to the league.
Right before Super Bowl 3, where the Jets were set to meet the Baltimore Colts, Namath guaranteed a title win.
Surprisingly enough, they did it - the Jets beat the Colts and got their hands on their very first Super Bowl win (the same game that gave them the record of being the first AFL team to take a title from an NFL team).
After this amazing win, Namath left the team due to knee injuries, leaving them to fend for themselves.
Through the years the experienced many ups and downs, but nothing quite as exciting as the win in '69.
Finally, in 2008, the team traded their quarterback for none other than Brett Favre.
Brett Favre has done some amazing things for the team, including leading them to victory once again.
Players began to improve upon their weaknesses, and fans got excited again when they saw the wins flowing in.
With a new season approaching, fans are excited about a possible title win; so much so, that season tickets are already gone, leaving few one-off seats for stragglers.
