Top 5 Tips to Choosing the Right Electric Breast Pump

2
Some people may think that choosing a breast pump would be easy, well I have some news for them.
It certainly is not, and any mom who has used one, or thought about using one, will agree with me.
So let's break it down and look at the top 5 tips for choosing the right electric breast pump.
Tip #1 - Look at the four W's The four W's are:
  • What - are you using it for?
  • Where - are you using it?
  • When - are you using it?
  • Why - are you using it?
What - Are you using the breast pump to exclusively breastfeed with bottles? Or are you expressing to increase milk supply? Or maybe you had a preemie who needs your breast milk but can't yet feed from the breast.
Where - Are you going to be using just at home? Or maybe you will be using it at work, and out and about? Is it somewhere private - or very public? When - Will you be using it at night when the baby is asleep? Will you be using it constantly for an extended time? Why - Did you have a preemie baby? Did you need to return to work? Are you using it to have a night off and let the grandparents babysit?   Tip #2 - Price / Budget Some people might say this should be number one on the list, however for this article I am slotting it in at number two, as you can pay big dollars for a breast pump, but not think it through properly, and so it ends up being a waste of time and money.
Consider how much you are willing to budget, and take a look at what's out there and what is suited to your four W's.
The price of breast pumps range from $70.
00 to thousands of dollars, but it's no good throwing away a lot of money if it doesn't do what you want it to.
Tip #3 - Customer Reviews This is so important, because I know that I'm not going to go and buy something that everyone has rated 1 star and has terrible reviews.
And I'm sure you're not going to either.
Take some time to read some reviews, how many stars does it have, what are the pros and cons, what do they like about it.
If 99 out of 100 customer reviews rave about a product, it's a sure fire bet that it's worth buying.
Tip #4 - Brand Brand is quite a big factor as there are some breast pumps that are used predominantly in hospitals, and this is quite reassuring, to know that if the hospitals are using them, they must be good.
But in saying this never count out the little guy, if it has what you want, has a good price, and good reviews - it might just be the one you have been looking for.
Tip #5- Bonuses / Extras Let's face it - we all love something for nothing, and many breast pumps are including more and more functions and features to win us over.
Some of these include bags, car adaptors, bottle stands, microwaveable pouches.
So take a look if they have some nice extra goodies to get bang for your buck.
A word of caution to this tip - some things may seem like a great extra feature or bonus, but sometimes it's a bit of a hype and you'll be packing it away at the back of the closet, only to get it out at the next garage sale...
