Deck & Garden Planters
- Deck and garden planters improve drainage, increase productivity and reduce weeds and pest problems. You can also raise the planters by attaching a wooden block or "leg" on each corner of the base. Place the planter on a corner of your garden or attach it with hooks or screws to your deck railing.
- For a simple rectangular planter, cut two identical 1-inch thick boards for front and back. Place two identical smaller side boards between the corners of the two larger boards forming a rectangular outline. Glue the joints before drilling wood screws through them for added stability. Cut a base board that rests over the exposed edges of the planter. Drill drainage holes through the base before securing with wood screws.
- Avoid making the planter wider than 3 feet so you can easily reach contained vegetation growing in the middle from either side. Also select rot-resistant, quality wood that withstands natural elements and lasts a long time.
