You Found Me...

by Norman E. Jones, Sr.

My son Norman E. Jones, II found me on January 21, 1972, I was at the height of my career. For over Forty years as a freelance Journalist, I was positioned to absorb a "Mecca" of Negro, Afro-American, Black and African American history in America. At the time he located me, I had made contributions to several local and national black and white publications on a variety of subjects concerning the black populations in this country. This made me one of the most knowledgeable persons on the culture of the American Negro in the world!!

When he entered The Ohio State University in the Fall of 1981, he asked me to give him some information on Negro History for his "Art of Livin" Doctrine," in his continuing Education Program. I told him to send me some tapes and I would be glad to record my observation of the history on Negro, Afro-American, Black and African American History. He had no way of knowing that I had made several attempts to introduce a series of projects on the history of Black America during the late 60s and early 70s to several American universities.

This was an opportunity almost too good to be true. I realized I could bring him up to date on my life as I narrated my observation of the little known and great history of America's most visual citizens.

I felt my son would not only get his studies correct and for the record at one of America's finest universities, and I also could let him know how I had lived my life - before and after - he was born. I was very please when he found me and honored to inform him of the "Total" history of the Negro, Afro-America, Black and African-American history in America. It gave me yet another opportunity to tell the facts on our American culture and history...this time from my personal view.

I decided to write this book by using a series of articles on Negro life and history based on their struggles, sacrifices and success. The way they had to adjust from the rural exploitation of greedy white men on the farm, is something just short of a miracle. They adapted to the urban way of living and advanced to the point of a successful self0sustaining sophisticated way of life on the "Avenue" of America's greatest cities. This unparalleled progress embraced every level of sociological strata of Negro Americans.

The book is specifically designed to provide the reader an opportunity to make a comparative analogy - scholarly or otherwise - of the Negro leadership of early black America and the comp-temporary leadership that took over in later years. The former being builders of great communities, and the latter being destroyers of the black communities. I feel capable and obligated to write such a book to chronicle and highlight the factual account of Negro History and Culture.

My personal experiences embrace the seven decades that cover the most dynamic growth and change in Negro Americans. My professional acquaintance of many of the mighty figures who collective lives cover a half-century of Negro progress. This era, 1929 to 1969, saw the Negro go from almost zero to a multi-billion dollar community.

My range of information can actually go back as far as the 1860's with a first, second and third hand close-up and factual account of the American Negro and/or Afro-American and/or black and/or African-American history.
