How to Compare Double Air Beds
- 1). Determine what type of bed you need; single chamber or double chamber. Single chamber beds are lighter, but provide less support and comfort.
- 2). Decide how high the mattress should be off of the floor. Double chamber models go as high as 20 inches off the floor, making it easy to get on and off.
- 3). Evaluate if an inflatable pillow is an amenity that would be useful. This can be helpful if the mattress is for occasional guests and you don't want to purchase spare pillows.
- 4). Consider the construction of the mattress, beam versus coil. Coil support systems provide support that mimics a traditional mattress.
- 5). Determine if the material the mattress is made out of is important for comfort. Velveteen or flocked mattresses are warmer and can be covered with a plain sheet, whereas PVC-covered mattresses feel better with something over the top or when using a sleeping bag.
- 6). Decide if an electric or battery-powered pump is best for how you intend to use the bed. Electric pumps inflate and deflate the bed quickly, but require power to do so. Battery-powered pumps are useful for camping or other environments without access to electricity.
- 7). Evaluate the valve that holds in the air. The best mattresses come with a double locking valve that holds the air in two ways. The air can't come out after it's in until it's deflated.
- 8). Choose a size that suits your need. Sizes can vary from 74 to 78 inches long, 54 to 60 inches wide and 9.5 to 20 inches high. If unsure, measure the size of the space where you'll be using it before you go shopping, if possible.
- 9). Determine what price range fits your budget. Prices can vary from $20 to more than $100.
