    • 1). Click the "Start" button and then right-click the "My Computer" icon.

    • 2). Click the "Properties" option, then click the "Hardware" tab at the top of the window.

    • 3). Click the "Device Manager" button, then click the "+" arrow to the left of the word "Modems."

    • 4). Right-click on the modem that is listed, choose "Uninstall" and then click "OK" to confirm that you are going to uninstall the device. Click "Exit," then "OK" to close the open windows.

    • 5). Open your disc drive and insert your operating system disc. Close the drive.

    • 6). Click the "Start" button and then select "Control Panel."

    • 7). Double-click the "Phone and Modem Options" icon, which will open a new window.

    • 8). Select the "Modem" tab at the top of the window, then click the "Add" button.

    • 9). Click the "Don't Detect My Modem; I Will Select It from a List" box, then click the "Next" button.

      Click the "Standard 56000 BPS Modem" option to highlight it, then choose the "Next" option.

      Select the port that you want to use for your modem (Microsoft recommends COM2 if it is available) and click the "Next" button. Click "Finish" on the next screen to complete the installation of your modem.
