Neutrogena All-in-1 Acne Control Daily Scrub Guide Review:
I'm always on the lookout for a good scrub. But, since I'm super frugal (those who know me might say cheap) I never want to spend a ton of cash, especially on myself. That means when I'm on the hunt for a new skin care product, I typically head to the drugstore.
Neutrogena actually has a huge offering of over-the-counter acne treatment products, with the All-in-1 Acne Control Daily Scrub being just one of them.
So, seeing as it was only about six bucks, I figured I'd try it.
Honestly, what caught my eye was the packaging. It say the scrub helps clear "past, present, and future" breakouts. What's not to like about that? But can it really live up to that?
The active ingredient in this scrub is salicylic acid. While it's not necessarily the most effective OTC acne treatment ingredient, it can be helpful for minor breakouts and blackheads. Salicylic acid can help keep pores clear, which in turn can help prevent breakouts as well.
What about those spots from acne past? Technically, it's called post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Soy extract, listed as an ingredient in this scrub, can actually help fade those spots. My only concern is that soy extract is listed dead last, a clue that this product probably doesn't have much soy in it at all.
Even so, the scrub definitely leaves the skin feeling extra soft. The base is very rich and creamy. Once you add a touch of water, it glides smoothly over the skin. You don't need to much. Just a dab barely the size of a dime was more than enough for the entire face.
It rinses away nicely, too, leaving the skin feeling clean. But there is also a bit of an emollient feel left behind, which is nice. My face wasn't super tight afterwards.
The scent wasn't anything special. It's just a soapy smell, reminiscent of shampoo actually.
For a bargain product its a good deal, but the scrub isn't perfect. It's probably too much for sensitive skin types. The exfoliating grains are a bit harsh, especially if you use the product often. The packaging recommends a twice daily scrub, but I found I could only use it a few times a week. Used more than that and my skin would get red and burn.
For mild acne, or for those wanting an exfoliating scrub for just a few dollars, this isn't a bad choice. Just remember there is only so much an over-the-counter product can do, so see a dermatologist if you need help getting acne under control.
