Roman Blind Sewing Instructions
- 1). Measure the desired finished width and length of your window and add 3 inches to the width and 6 inches to the length. Cut the fabric to the necessary measurements.
- 2). Pin a strip of ring tape 4 inches from the side of the lining fabric that covers the length of the curtain. Sew the ring tape to the curtain. Repeat with the other side.
- 3). Lay your curtain and lining fabric with right sides together. Pin at the sides. Sew down the sides. Turn the curtain right side out and iron the seams.
- 4). Form the bottom casing by folding up the raw edge of the fabric 4 inches. Fold under the raw edges 1/2 inch and use pins to hold in place. Sew straight across the bottom casing.
- 5). Make the top rod casing for the Roman blinds by folding down the top raw edge of fabric 5 inches. Fold the raw edges under 1/2 inch, pin in place and sew across. Sew across again 2 1/2 inches up from the first seam.
- 6). Cut the dowel 1/2 inch shorter than the measurement of the inside of your window casing. Insert the dowel into the bottom casing of your curtain.
- 7). Attach two eyehooks into the dowel just below the ring tape.
- 8). Start at the bottom eyehooks and thread the cording up through the rings in the tape. Tie a secure knot at the eyehooks. Leave 24 inches of extra cording for raising and lowering the shade. Tie the two ends of cord together.
